photography assignment

Hi all,

I was having a conersation with a few people the other day in regards to the approach that different people are using when taking photographs. Some people were suggesting that it is a good idea to take ten or so shots of the same view but from slightly different angles and positions in hope that one of the many will turn out perfectly. I feel that a far more professional appraoch is to spend your time creating a stable stance, a good angle and the correct focus and then take one or perhaps two high quality shots. I have tried both techniques and in my experience I think that you seem to get a higher quality picture if you just take your time and focus on getting a good photo rather than shooting away and hoping for the best. Anyway in both circumstances the objective is the same, to get a good photo and at the end of the day it doesn't matter how you achieve it.

Hi Rachel

You make some very good points. I guess my personal technique (and that of my photography group) is a combination of both of the techniques you have mentioned.

We position ourselves for the best possible image, take a short burst of photos, check the last photo on the camera's screen, then if necessary make any adjustments and take another burst. (If you like you can read about these strategies in previous posts on this blog).

Like you say, dental photography is a very personalised process and any techniques are valid if they achieve the required result!

Thanks
Nick

Hi All

I just want to let you all now how fantastic I think the dialogue has been on this blog. You both have very valid points to your approaches, and although Rachel's is probably the approach the that the more professional photographers take, Nick's groups' approach is also a very valid one, and going by the quality of Nick's photos, a very effective one for him (I haven't seen the photos from the other students in the group). So, it is a matter of personal preference and ability. Just as a final point, was has eventuated on this blog is a true example of a learning community in action that is based on learning constructed by the students. I want to congratulate you all on showing the world how collaborative and student constructivist learning is achieved. You guys are the best learning tribe that I have witnessed so far. What a pleasure to have watched your learning unravel.
Enjoy the rest of the weekend
