Patient photo's

Hi all,

I finally took my photo's on a patient, and it was hard. My tutors told us (and Nick will be able to back me up on this) we had 10 minutes to take the entire series. Thats probably fine if you have a lot of experience, but I took the other photos on class mates back in the first term holidays! So I was rusty. I felt really pressured to take all the photos so I just rushed through them, I didn't even review them to see if the were OK. My strategy was to just take 2 or 3 one after the other with slight adjustments and hope for the best! I still haven't seen the the photos...
Did anyone else feel like this? I know its uncomfortable and the patient doesn't want to be sitting there for a whole hour, thats not fair. I just would have like a little more time...
Maybe I should have practice some more on students before I went to the patient.

Did you get the patient to hold the retractors? I havent taken photos on any patients but with the ppl in my group - retracting ourselves under instructions was easier as we knew our own stretch limit. Of course it does depend on the kind of patient you have. We also found taking many subsequent photos helped minimise putting the patient in prolonged discomfort. Don't forget to continue using the focus with the multiple shots - there is bound to be a money shot!! Another thing - once you've taken the multiple shots, give the patient a break + quickly have a look at some photos just to check that you have an 'ideal' shot so that you wont have to get the patient in again for photos. Hope your photos turned out good! =)

Hi Acacsia

Yeah, 10 minutes was a bit of a challenge. I was lucky enough to have a friendly and cooperative patient, and if I remember correctly, Jasmina may have helped me with retraction too.

I also took photos of another patient on another day. We had a little trouble with the occlusal shots just the two of us, until I asked Belinda for some assistance.
Don't be afraid to ask for help. If you managed to do all that on your own then well done!

I hope your photos turned out okay, let me know.

I had Rach help me with the retractors etc so I wasn't alone, I had help. My patient was really cooperative too, and I did take multiple shots (which were all crap). I did take some more on another patient, this time with the patient holding the retractors. Those photos turned out better, I don't know whether its because he held the retractors or because I had an extra 5 minutes :)

Anyway, I don't think I like photography!!!!!!!!!!!
